First introduced in the angel's blessing of Jacob after the struggle; saying that Jacob will be blessed with fertility. Later used to describe the "red heifer" to be used in a purity sacrifice.

First appears as a sacrificial libation by Jacob when he sets the stone on which he rested his head as a pillar. He anoints the pillar with oil. In Exodus, first identified as fuel.
